It's Only Adrenaline

It's Only Love - Figure & Sleepy T
A shift in a new direction for Monsieur Figure, based on everything else I've heard. I'm not normally one to lose my head over disco, but I can definitely picture myself hootin' and hollerin' over this one after a few over-priced drinks.

Adrenaline - Destroy Disco
THE perfect jam for that girl in the front row with bowling ball pupils, chewing holes through her face. Breakdown at 4:05 gets my spine tingling. 'Nuff said.

RIP Roc Raida

DAMN! 2009 is getting a bit much. MJ, AM, and now Grand Master Roc Raida...

RIP!

Raida was a legend among legends, a DJ's DJ, a super heros hero, a true artist deserving of the title Grand Master. I had the pleasure of seeing him alongside the rest of the X- Ecutioners in 1999. When you were in that room you could not only hear and see the presence but you could truly feel it. He was walking piece of history that completely embodied his culture. He was his culture, he was our culture. He was a true DJ.

There has been no official statement as to what, how, why and Im not about to add to the rumors. I just want to remember him the way I could only assume hed want to be remembered.. .

I Can See Through My Napkin...

(How do they get down once they've reached the top?)

Wireless back up and running, and I have rejoined my peers in the ability to spout inane, not-really-that-funny thoughts on Twitter. In the meantime, I've ditched the train for my car (at least until I have to buy a tank of gas) and these are the sounds that have been booming (more like quietly pitter-pattering) out of the three out of four speakers that actually work in there.

Delaze (Strip Steve's 9 Minute Journey to Salvation Mix) - Dave P & Adam Sparkle
There's a uniquely "Strip Steve" thump that I have always noticed, and it is most definitely present in this sweaty, 9-minute jam. Personally, the post-5-minute mark does a lot more for me than the intro half, but to each their own. I could see 6:40 definitely bringing things to a whole new level if used at the right time.

The Greasy Beat ft. Bootsy Collins (Natural Funk Remix) - Claude VonStroke
A head-bobber. A good soundtrack for being "stuck in traffic but you don't care because you have all the time in the world and are actually enjoying sitting in the sun with the windows down and people-watching".

Pioneer CDJ 2000

I dont see myself switching anytime soon but this is the most enticing alternative to technics 1200's Ive seen to this day! Highly endorsed by Laidback Luke, Eddie Halliwell, Roger Sanchez, Armin Van Buren, and the Swedish House Mafia, these looks to take over as the new standard. Im sad but hey tehcnics have been standard since the 70's... Is this the end? only time will tell.

TROPICAL VIBES

It is sad but the leaves are falling and the end of summer here is closing in. This summer was amazing one but for me no where more so then in music. It was like there was this sudden tropical explosion and being that Ive been a huge reggae and dancehall fan for as long as I can remember I was lovin it. The heat was on with almost every genre out there. Smiling faces vibin' out were abundant across the world as the majority of the dance music industry opted for more percussion oriented party vibes and alot less side chainy electro influenced buisness [:)] So heres a few tracks that represent the amazingly awesome direction music took this spring and summer from my point of view.

MP3: Chairlift – Evident Utensil (Sinden Remix)

MP3: Crazy Cousinz - Inflation
MP3:Busy Signal – Da Style Deh (Douster Dagga remix)
MP3:Major Lazer & Crookers feat. Leftside & Supahype - 'Jump Up'
MP3:George Lenton – Island In The Sun
MP3:Misty Dub - CaoS

Heres to hoping this tends reaches well into 2010 and beyond.

Afrojack got jacked!

Fresh from Twitterland [yes that is now one word] heres some news I found very interesting that Im also super stoked on. So most of us know that a young guy named AFROJACK wrote a tune called "How I Like It" with Diplo and the drums and certain other pieces of the MAJOR LAZER joint "Pon Di Floor" feat. Vybz Kartel are directly from that tune. I woke up to check things out in the land of tweets and was amped to finally see someone calling out Downtown Records for not giving cred where cred is due. Heres the story directly from Afrojack and hes not to happy about being jacked this time around.

Here the full story in english so the bloggers from the rest of the world can also understand.

Diplo mails Afrojack;"love your stuff, you wanna hook up when im in holland".

Afrojack mails back while thinking "omg dats diplo mofoo damnnn";"ok"

Diplo comes to holland, in my home studio when i was still living with my mother, i pick him up in amsterdam, we start making music, my mom makes saurkraut (zuurkool) for us.

we go crazy in the studio and we made "How I Like It", later he says he really needs to use different vox on it for the album, so no stress, i send him the parts (remember we made it in Spijkenisse).

He mails me back with vox from vybz kartel over it, but keeping the "pon di floor" from the "how i like it" vox.

I'm cool i'm no troublemaker so i say what u want but ill keep playing this version, we make plans for exclusive extra release with the "how i like it" vocals for ONLY holland because i love my (yay), eventually that didn't work out because the label didn't really care for me.

Diplo did on the other hand because wherever you see "Major Lazer ft. Afrojack" this is the guy that arranged that.

The label on the otherhand (Thank you Downtown) thought hmmm "Major Lazer ft. Afrojack & Vybz Kartel - Pon Di Floor"...
it's too long, u know afrojack? i don't know afrojack, is it important prolly not.

Boom, they leave it out almost everywhere and i get fucked because i've been hyping our track and talking and it gets released without my name so i look like an ass.

And thats where we are now, I wrote this because i talked to luke last night (laidback luke, really good guy) and he told me about this..

for anyone who still wonders, don't make it that bad that i have to put up a fkin youtube video of me playing you the .FLP file (yes people fruity loops 8 XXL, as real el canario would say, BEAT THAT).

I'm out

peace

Incase you didnt know or have never thought to compare...

Oliver Twist Shit

My wireless connection is running amok and I have been temporarily thrown back to the nineteenth-century, or at least the early 2000s. This is some sort of Oliver Twist shit. For that reason, this post will be short, sweet, and simple in the hopes that I won't freeze everything up. If you want cool graphics and explosions and dramatic ClipArt, feel free to watch CNN for 10 minutes.

True to the nature of this post, the track below is dance music represented in its simplest, lip-bitingest form. Rhythm and an easily repeated vocal hook; this was designed for the dancefloor. I give a lot of respect to anyone who can hold my interest for 6 minutes with a kick, a snare, a two-note bassline, and a mysterious ticking sound (Snape, Snape, Severus Snape). Serve with a packed, sweaty, dark room.

DJ Fly is bringing the DMC's back! I was so stoked to see and hear this and I have to say it takes the cake on any and all DMC routines prior to it in my eyes. Some purists may argue but I havent ever heard a DMC routine this danceable before and at this point in the game Ill take that!

First theres the polished studio version post win.

Then theres the real thing.
