Sabrepulse

Sabrepulse is a 22 year-old Yorkshire born laptop/chip musician currently based in Aberdeen, Scotland while at university.

Sabrepulse has recently finished touring the UK as part of the Chiptune Alliance with Anamanaguchi and Firebrand Boy and also has toured in Europe this year.

From an early age heavily influenced by the sights and sounds of the 8/16bit videogame era, he came to start sequencing music in late 2001 after deciding to rewrite the soundtracks to seminal Amiga 500 classics, notably ‘Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters’ (however, it does seem he’s the only one who’s ever heard of it).

Fast forward half a decade and a mix of styles have emerged; primarily centering his efforts on a genre recently coined ‘chipbreak’ - sounding somewhat like a fusion between chip/jungle/breakcore/dnb and hardcore - Sabrepulse has also dipped his toe into crumply, glitchy idm and breakbeat. He played live regularly across the uk, records/performs as half of the glitch/sinecore duo ‘GUSH OVEN’ (alongside Smile For The Cameraman, Honey!) and is part of several indie/netlabels in the UK, US and Japan.

Check out some of his tracks. They take a bit of getting used to but they're very catchy. Enjoy!

This track is off his album "Turbo City" which has much more of a true chiptune/8-bit feel to it.

These two tracks are off of the album "Chipbreak Wars" where he started deviating from the classic chiptune sound and began adding elements of drum and bass, breaks and even a bit of electro. "We Are Hi-Speed Tour Mix" has a cool reggae vibe to it and has some drum and bass and break parts. "Phalanx" starts with kind of a weird spacey feel and then near the end begins to sound almost electro-ish.
