RUSKO

The brand new Rusko LP "OMG" has just dropped on Diplo's Mad Decent label. The 14 track selection has the dub steppin chin strokers all wound up proclaiming "sell out", "full of cheese", and "mainstream shite!" to quote a few of the more repeated comments Ive seen.
However I have to whole heartedly disagree! This LP is nothing short or brilliant! Lets start from the end and work our way backwards...

District Line is as dubby as they come backed by a wicked brass lead cool out vibe perfect for any occasion that comes with sun. My Mouth along with I Love You, and one of my personal favorites Ravers Special all see Rusko take dubstep forward and backwards all at once with a strong influence of talk boxing funk. I dont hear anyone else making dubstep quite like this right now and its incredibly refreshing. Moving on Kumon Kumon is lead by manic old school rave stabs, chopped and screwed amens, and some perfectly pitched up vocal samples imagining this is Ruskos ode to growing up in and around UK rave culture. Then we have his touring MC MR. Rod Azlan touch down on the uplifting dubwise vibes of Rub A Dub Shakedown, although a little auto tune is present the rest of the elements of the song make you instantly forgive. Righteous vibes reign supreme on this tune and is nothing short of a rub a dub anthem! Then to top it all off the rest of the songs feature collabos with Crookers, Ben Westbeech, Gucci Mane, and Amber Coffman whom Id site all as good company to be keeping.

So yes Ill agree this isnt your normal dubstep affair but who would want it to be? Rusko is in the position in the industry he is for a reason. He has an extremely strong vision that most other dubstep curators cant fathom. A vision for keeping a movement which he was essential in starting, moving forward. He has learned alot from watching the downfalls of UK born sister genre Drum & Bass. Determined not to follow on the negative sides of her foot steps Rusko is truly dubsteps super hero! Dedicated to fighting the evil forces of monotonous dark wobbles and uninspired non melodic "tracks".
