OLDSKOOL SUNDAYS VOL. 1
Illegal Party in Blackburn, Birhmingham, 1992
So it's my first post of a weekly series called "oldskool sundays" where I will be posting old raves tunes that I love. Most of which came out when I was still in diapers.
The first track I wanted to share with you guys is by far one of my favorites, you have probably heard me play it, a tune called "Injected with a Poison" by Praga Khan. Praga Khan is from Belgium and was in the group Lords of Acid in the late nineties. They are most famous for constructing the music for the Mortal Kombat video game & movie. So without further adieu I present one of his tracks from the early 90's.

Steed Lord: Theres More to Iceland than Bjork and Volcanoes
Maybe I missed the memo but in the last two months I've really come to love this group Steed Lord and I think I should tell you a little bit about them so you will love them too!
Steed Lord consists of the Icelandic foursome M.E.G.A, Kali, Demo and AC Bananas. Four fresh young talents out of New Crack City, Iceland. Together they manage to make up their own genre of electronic music. Pure homemade Icelandic electro with filthy beats, killer melodies, heavy vocoding & dirty synths. In less than a year, Steed Lord has exploded onto the international scene, constantly killing it with their amazing live performances. And since 2007 Steed Lord has without a record deal performed all around Europe and North America, been remixed by legends like DJ Mehdi, Crookers, Mano & DJ Klever and appeared on more blogs, mixtapes and in more magazines than you could imagine. They embarked on their first US tour summer 2008 supporting Chromeo for their west coast tour and Does It Offend You,Yeah? in San Francisco as well as headlining their own shows in over 10 cities. Performing at the hottest clubs in Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, Austin, Dallas, Toronto, Las Vegas and totally blowing peoples minds everytime. Steed Lord are known for putting all their energy into their live shows and to see them live is an experience you will never forget. They are not afraid to experiment with sounds and vocals live and are always pushing themselves to bring something new to their set everywhere they go. What sets them apart from a lot of other bands is that Steed Lord have also been recognized as talented designers. The proof came when they worked with the retail giant H&M last year. From that collaboration came the Steed Lord/H&M clothing line that was sold in over 52 countries. And with more live shows coming up, the long-awaited debut album Truth Serum coming out and even a clothing line on the way, it is crystal clear Steed Lord are an unstoppable force to be reckon with.

MORGAN PAGE
MORGAN PAGE live! @ Lucky 13 Jan.22
Morgan Page is the man!
The story may sound vaguely familiar – “with few label options for a young DJ/producer, he releases a bootleg album. The album draws rave reviews in magazines and on websites all over the world, becoming an instant underground classic.” No, this isn’t the story of Danger Mouse; this is the story of Morgan Page – who, in 2006, released a compilation comprised of bootleg remixes of the likes of Coldplay, Imogen Heap, and Davie Bowie aptly titled, Cease and Desist.
What followed instead were not cease and desist letters but a slew of legitimate remix work by numerous major labels and a record deal from Nettwerk Music Group. Not a bad turn of events for a guy who produced his first track at age 14 while growing up in a log cabin in Vermont.
Fast-forward to the present and we find Morgan Page quickly becoming one the most sought after Remix Producers. His remixes for marquee artists (Angie Stone, Delerium, Stevie Nicks, Nelly Furtado and more) consistently land at the top of the Billboard Club Play charts, including three number one hits in 2006 alone.
And now, if his current release Elevate, and his current single, The Longest Road, are any indication, Morgan Page seems well on his way to mastering the craft of creating original club hits. After its release, The Longest Road, quickly shot up the Billboard Club charts and found its place in the Top 5 alongside Madonna and Snoop Dogg. As a top seller on iTunes’ Dance chart and after spending 3 weeks as the #1 seller on Beatport’s Progressive chart, the song was quickly sought out for inclusion on a number of renowned compilations including Ministry of Sound: Sessions and the venerated Global Gathering series by Godskitchen.
Page’s album Elevate –comprised of 4 original productions and 8 remixes - is more than a collection of singles. He has been able to blend Elevate into one complete work, showcasing his dexterity as a producer. Songs, encompassing an array of styles, are sequenced to form a continuity that seems as if they were all created with this one project in mind. “I see this album as something that DJs will appreciate and something that all fans of electronic music will enjoy experiencing from start to finish,” says Morgan when talking about his record.
Indeed, The Longest Road – which has been described as “House meets Nashville” – is becoming an instant classic.

The Glitch Mob Slays
The Glitch Mob consists of four DJ's/ Producers Ooah, edIT, Boreta & Kraddy all coming outta the west coasts underground with relentless dance floor bombs, Glitched out Vocals, Warpy Sub Bass and complex rhythms. The Glitch Mob have crafted their own form of futuristic dance floor hip-hop that has been "slaying" audiences world wide.
Out here in Edmonton Oh Snap and SMR are stoked to have Ooah ""THE MOB BOSS" and edIT "THE CRUNKMASTER HIMSELF" at the Pawn Shop Friday Jan. 23rd.
Ooah- Dr. Oobot the subsonic scientist makes lots of noises, often times collaborating with other members of the strange and venerable glitch mob. Generally Ooah aka the Mob Boss brews audio concoctions consisting of banging drum beats that range anywhere from eighty-five to one hundred and ten beats per minute, squishy gut-wrenching bass frequencies, harmonic poly-rhythmic melodies and bloopy bleepy clicks and clacks. Some might know this madman for his outstanding turntablism, others for his highly energetic and consistently danceable hybrid dj/live laptop sets. No matter what the situation may be, Ooah and his fellow Glitch Mob homies are guaranteed to slay the crowd with an outrageously wicked performance and unforgettable sounds that will leave you begging for more...
Edit- "A love of hip-hop and a desire to create what I hear to be hip-hop in the future. A fusion of complex cutup edits and rhythms mixed with catchy aggressive dancefloor hip-hop… We are just trying to make the music that we want to hear because no one else has made it for us."

ZINC
Courtesy of our good friends at Get Weird Turn Pro we have what I as en ex dnb head consider to be something very special. Zinc was always one of my favorite producers and DJ's in the dnb scene. Then I had heard from Fake Blood that Mr.Zinc was up to some serious production at some other bpm's outside the dnb range. At the time I was very excited, listen this mix and you will be too...
London DJ/Producer Zinc is probably best known for Drum & Bass although he hasn’t been playing that style for two years now. Here’s a really nice hour long excursion into bass heavy ‘crack house’ that includes tracks from the likes of Mr.Oizo, Fake Blood and Crookers along with some original productions. Don’t miss this one.

CROOKERS & TREASURE FINGERS ARE ANIMALS!!!!
These tunes are nothing short of amazing! However if all you wobble loving bass fiends are growing chubbys as you download the crookers mix dont go getting too excited. This tune is not the usual crookers fare, rather it is a refreshing take on things and an excellent song for that end of the night set. The Treasure Fingers offering is equally enjoyable although alot more of a familiar sound from the man from the ATL.

Ronald Jenkees. Is this guy for real?
Hello You Tubes! This is how Ronald Jenkees greets us at the start of most of his videos, whether you believe his character is for real or not, his talent is undeniable.
"I'm not a savant or anything remotely related. Lots of people make assumptions, but I'm normal and I also don't take myself (or music for that matter) too seriously. Some also assume I went to school for music but I actually went for a tech-related degree (networking, security). Musically speaking, I am completely self-taught but it was a slow process - I don't think I was "born to play" or anything but stuck with it. My actual training consists of a few piano lessons (I was a terrible piano student quickly went back to just playing) and one year of marching band during my senior year of high-school.
I make videos to (hopefully) entertain, share my music, and encourage others to play even if they're just getting started. No matter where you plan to take your music, I think it's time well spent. Whether you're hammering out "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or something crazy complicated, music can and should be fun. It's such a constructive use of your time, even if you are doing simple stuff."
Ronald's debut album has already been released and is available for purchase as a phyiscal cd or a digital download. You can find it on his web sight www.ronaldjekees.com/cd-store/

SHARPS - Girl Sweat
Timeless
From time to time I think the actual act of rocking the party can get lost in the race for playing the newest and freshest tunes. The turn over time for songs in ones crate / play list is becoming faster and faster everyday as we are constantly hit with more and more new music each day. The choice is tremendous and the sheer volume is daunting even for the most seasoned vets. Tunes that are rocked one week are forgotten the next. So as I enter into 09 my new years resolution is to not forget. To not forget the songs, the music, the rhythms and the melodies that brought us to where we are now.
This isnt the freshest, newest, hypest thing going down but rather a timeless piece of music and part of history that will never be forgotten. 1984 till forever!
